Just 35 or so miles south of Our Town is a small river known as the Charles and every year, hundreds of thousands of folk converge there around the middle of October for an important race.
It’s called “The Head of The Charles” and it’s really a fantastic day of gathering and competition.
You can get details at the HOC Regatta web site

Oct. 17th – 18th, 2009
Make sure to get there early,
you never know what’s going to happen next! Wander over and get a view from Eliot Bridge. Music all day at the “Row-A-Palooza Music Festival”, foods, vendors and, of course, racing! Here’s a link to the PDF map of the course, with shuttle bus stops, etc. Wear your walking shoes & bring your camera!
You may want to catch the Red Line to either Harvard or Central Square (puts you near the mid-point) or the Green Line to BU (right about the about the starting point).
Aside from lots of great competition, there are numerous other entertainments available and, given that it is the Hub of the Universe, it’s assured that some will be a great surprise.
Food, music, a great selection of unique gifts and just a wonderful Fall day out by an historic river watching, literally, the worlds’ best giving it their all; this is the Head of The Charles Regatta!
